Besson Scottish Solo and Ensemble Championship

On Saturday 4th Februaury the band performed at the Besson Scottish Solo and Ensemble Championships Gala Concert in the Howden Park Centre, Livingston. Under the baton of John Logan, the newly appointed Head of Wind and Brass at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the band performed a varied second half set which included a performance from guest tuba soloist Johnathan Gawn.

At the contest itself, the bands mixed quartet won the open ensemble championship for the third year running. The quartet of Caroline Farren, Scott Walker, Alison Hall and Alison Bonnar performed Gilbert Vinters classic 'Elegy and Rondo'. The bands trombone quartet featuring Paul Kiernan, Mark Haldane, Charlie Farren and guest Colin Buchannan finished a close second.

In the solo contest, Kenneth Brown finished 3rd in the slow melody contest and collected the best tuba prize in the open contest. Meanwhile, Alison Hall finished a creditable 4th in the open contest.
